Purpose and schedule
The main purpose of the BBC Radio 5 programme which is called Radio 5 Live drive is to entertain and educate the audience more about popular topics and subjects at the time. Live Drive is a round up of the news from that day and it is mainly just talking and is for the audience to be informed and educated about the news that day and also the top sports that has happened recently and they talk about it. Live Drive is played and broadcasted every Friday at 4PM. The show is played at 4PM as the target audience is aimed towards a older audience who may be retired and don't work meaning they have free time throughout the day to listen to the show, this show may also be listened to by people who work and want to listen to a talk show to help them work. The content and how the show is presented helps to reflect the actual radio station for BBC Radio 5 because it is two presenters talking about stuff which is what is mainly done throughout the whole of the radio station. The language used in this show is all listened to in English as the target audience are people who live in the UK and are wanting to listen to recent sports and news. The target audience of the show is aimed towards people ages 25-60 as more older people listen to talk shows where as the younger audience is more likely to listen to popular music and also listen to music through streaming apps such as Spotify. The presenters of the show are called Chris Warburton and Maz Farookhi.
BBC Radio 5 have competitors such as TalkSport and also LBC, these are competitors because both of the radio stations that are the competitors are talk radio stations broadcasting mainly talk and less much.
Income
BBC Radio 5 gains all of its income for the shows from the BBC License fee which is how people pay to access all things BBC such as the BBC on the television, the BBC TV license is one of the only way of the income for the radio station. The fee is produced by BBC studios and other commercial subsidiaries which all reinvested back into BBC and the radio stations. The BBC has a commercial arm where BBC studios sells BBC content to other countries for rebroadcasting and generates revenue from its UK TV channels. All of this income as well goes back into the radio stations and the BBC business. BBC Radio 5 doesn't have any adverts or commercial advertising broadcasted onto their radio station because BBC Radio 5 is a PSB (public service broadcaster) meaning the radio stations are not for profitable use but mainly for the audiences entertainment.
Content and production techniques
News - BBC 5 Live Drive show talk about recent sporting event such as the football premiere league. They often z mention the recent news such as traffic and recent events that have happened.
Weather - in the show they often talk about the weather and how the weather may affect you and your day.
Diologue - Throughout the entirety of the show they mainly just talk about talk topics and often don't play music. The voices are spoken by the presenters of the show.
Jingles - The jingles is a fast paced beat which is high energy and helps to make the audience focussed on the show that they are about to listen to.
Round up - Round up of what's being going on in the day
Interviews - Interviews of people to create entertainment for the audience
Staff and resources
The show has two presenters including Chris Warburton and Clare McDonnell. These two presenters work well for the target audience of the show because they are both aged around 40-50 years old which is perfect for the audience because the audience Is targeted at a older audience which is people over 40 years old. The presenters are male and female which helps to target the audience as it is aimed at men and female audience members. Things such as the topics and subjects that they talk about on the programme is a essential thing for the presenters because without this they wouldn't have anything to talk about.
