LO1 Analysis of a radio station


BBC Radio 5 







The target audience of the BBC Radio 5 has a very large percentage of males of females. We can see this as the statistics show that 83% of listeners are male and only 17% of listeners are female. BBC Radio 5 has its largest and highest reach on the day Saturday and may be because of the fact that more people are chilled out on the weekend and have a lot more time to listen to the radio for entertainment. The average age is 53 years old because the radio station is aimed towards an older audience because there is a lot of talking on the show and not as much music as other shows and the older audience like listening to people speak a lot. BBC Radio 5 is aimed towards an audience in the ABC 1 social status target audience. The interests of the target audience are interested in breaking news, live sports and current affairs. BBC Radio 5 plays music such as live performances. The average listening hours that a single audience member listens to every week to BBC Radio 5 is 6 hours per week. 



BBC Radio 5 has an ownership where they it is a PSB which is a public service broadcaster which is for the public. This means that the radio station is purely for the audiences entertainment and all the money goes back into the radio station and isn't for commercial or a profitable use. BBC Radio 5 is apart of the large international company BBC where you have to pay for a TV License to watch and listen to anything BBC. On the radio station they have a separate show where they talk about all car and motorsport related subjects. The radio station doesn't have adverts as it is a PSB which is a public service broadcaster. The Radio station doesn't have adverts as it makes its money from TV licenses. The radio station can be accessed through the radio on DAB, Freeiew and the BBC sounds app which can be downloaded on a black box device.
