LO2 Multiplatform distribution

 Multiplatform Distribution

Above you can see that I have created and produced a mind map for the Multiplatform distribution. Technological convergence can be seen throughout this mind map as this term means that technology has evolved so for example you are able to listen to radio stations in multiple different ways not just on a traditional FM radio and now you can listen to radio through black box devices such as mobile phones. Henry Jenkins 2008 was the person who came up with the term and theory of a black box device and technological convergence. The Multiplatform distribution meant that radio stations were able to gain a wider audience reach as people were able to listen to the radio from a black box device such as a mobile phone which people usually carry around with them instead of a big radio. The technological convergence meant that people were able to access the radio a lot easier than before the technological convergence. Due to technological convergence it also meant that a benefit for the audience listening to the radio is that it was now a lot cheaper to be able to access the radio. Another benefit of technological convergence was that the target audience of the radio stations were able to be able to listen to the radio station at at a more ideal timing that suits that meaning that if they miss a specific show that wanted to listen to as they were busy doing something else they can now either download the episode or use a black box device such as a mobile phone and use a mobile app such as BBC sounds to listen to the show at a time that suits there needs a lot more and they are able to pause the radio and rewind and fast forward.

On the mind map above that I created and produced you can see that I have demonstrated all the different methods that BBC Radio 5 can now use to distribute there radio show all because of technological convergence and multi-platform distribution methods. As technological convergence has occurred it means that BBC Radio 5 are now able to distribute their radio shows through mobile apps on black box devices such as tablets and mobile phones. A massive benefit of multi-platform distribution is that BBC Radio 5 are able to produce a larger listenership meaning more people listening to the radio show because their target audience are able to be able to listen to the radio station on other things other than a traditional big FM radio and can now listen to the radio station on their mobile phone. On the other hand the larger listenership doesn't effect their revenue as BBC gets paid from TV licenses and not things like advertisement and listenership.
