LO1 Different types of radio stations and programmes

 

National Commercial - KISS 




The target audience for the radio station KISS is aged 15-34 years old, the music played on this platform aims towards this age category due to the popular and new songs they play, these new and popular songs is the type of music that a younger audience is wanting to listen where as the told audience is more likely to listen to music from the 90s. . The location of listeners for the target audience is aimed towards people who are primarily British and is not just in London and has expanded out of London into other cities in the UK allowing the target audience to be larger. The geodemographics of the listeners is in the UK and specifically London is because the radio station talk about subjects that can relate to people who live in this area and this information can be useful for them. The lifestyle that people who listen to KISS radio are people who have high energy and have a party loving lifestyle and the music that is played on this radio station appeals to this audience because the music is high lifting and energetic. The social status that this radio station is aimed towards is people in ABC1 which means the audience is aimed towards a audience with a disposable income. The audience of the radio station KISS is able to listen to the radio station on different sources such as FM, DAB and can also be streamed through their official RAYO app. Kiss Fm is also able to be listened to through a website called hellorayo.co where you are able to listen to the radio station live. Other websites such as radio player.planetradio.com and LiveRadioUk.com stream Kiss FM live straight to the consumer.  The Kiss Fm features a new Dance music show which starts at 9Pm - 11Pm which is perfect for the younger audience that it is aimed towards because the younger audience such as people at University who want to listen to some new and popular music before going out clubbing for the night ahead of them. 






Public - BBC Radio 1 



The target audience of the radio station BBC Radio 1 is aimed towards people who are aged 15-29 years old, this age category is a specific target audience because it suits them as the music is hiphop, pop and R and B which is all high energy type of music. It is also aimed towards both male and female genders, the target audience is both genders because the radio station talks about all sorts of topics that relate and appeal to both genders.  The radio station is aimed towards an audience who enjoy listening to new and popular music. The target audience is put into both social status ABC1, the target audience is aimed towards this demographic because you have to have some sort of disposable income to be able to listen to the radio station. The disposable income money would be going towards things such as a TV license and also a TV or a speaker and also a blackbox device to play things through the speaker. Some examples of how the audience can access the radio station is by using a smart speaker, the BBC sounds app and on DAB. Another way that BBC Radio 1 can be streamed and listened to is through BBC Iplayer on a blackbox device. The breakfast show on BBC Radio 1 starts at 7am and ends at 10:30 am which means it is perfect for the younger audience who have to go to work and school to listen to it as they go to where they need to go. 





Regional -  Hallam FM 




The radio station Hallam FM's primary target audience is aimed towards adults ages 25-34 in South Yorkshire.The reason that the Hallam FM radio is aimed towards a geodemographic audience who lives in South Yorkshire is because the content that the radio presenters talk about is relatable and useful for the audience living in South Yorkshire  Main locations that listeners live in are Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham, Chesterfield and Barnsley. The radio station is aimed towards an audience who like to listen to up to date and popular music at the time. You are able to listen to the radio station on DAB and FM. You can also listen to the radio station on smart speakers. Another target audience that the Hallam Fm radio is aimed at is university freshers in Sheffield who are going to be going to the universities in Sheffield as this is a way that they would be able to find out useful information about the city of Sheffield.  At 6:00 the Hits radio breakfast show which is presented by Fleur East, Will and James. The radio show is aimed at people who have early starts to their day going to work which allows them to listen to the radio show on the way to work. The show is also aimed towards a younger audience as the show plays popular and new music which the younger audience is more likely to listen to. The presenter Fleur East is a young and trendy presenter which also helps to bring in a younger audience to the breakfast show as the younger audience like to be able to relate to people. 



Community radio station - Sheffield Live

Sheffield Live which is a community radio station started operating and live streaming in 2000. As the show progressed on and got bigger Sheffield Live started to regularly broadcaster for four days a week. in 2004 Sheffield Live decided to apply for the community broadcasting license in November 2004. The radio station started to broadcast on the frequency 93.2 FM on the 29th of October 2007. The studio where the broadcaster is at number 6 Paternoster Row in Sheffield. Sheffield Live has the target audience of a local audience as the show talks about local subjects such as news and traffic. The radio station targets local people as they also have regular call ins from local people which helps to make the radio station more interactive and makes the radio station have a more friendly approach to it. Sheffield Live targets a diverse audience as they have lots of different shows such as a show which is completely in Manderin. This makes the radio station more inclusive. 






BBC Sheffield 



The location of listeners for BBC Sheffield are people who live in the area of Sheffield because the radio station talks about relatable things for Sheffield and share local news and weather. People who listen to BBC Sheffield listen to the radio station as they are able to hear about factual information about traffic on the roads and also weather in Sheffield which is a useful and entertaining thing for the audience who are travelling to work.  The age for the target audience of BBC Sheffield is people aged 50 and above. The social status are people in the status ABC1. You are able to listen to BBC Sheffield on BBC sounds and FM and DAB on a radio. The presenters on BBC Sheffield are not young and are middle aged meaning that a younger audience wouldn't listen to this radio station as much as the older generation as they wouldn't know things such as recent and popular trends which the younger audience may want to hear about. At 6 Pm BBC Sheffield hosts a show called Football Heaven which is all all the build ups to football matches and they also feature local football teams in Sheffield. The target audience of this radio show is aimed towards football enthusiasts who are interested in football and listen to the show to find out information and also for entertainment. The radio show is a useful show for football fans as they are able to listen to the show on the way to games to find out useful information that they may not already know.

This Podcast is all about cars and is presented by the well known car YouTuber Mark McCann. The age that this Podcast episode is aimed towards people aged 16 - 50. This age target audience is because it firstly aims towards a younger audience who have just started driving. The target audience is also aimed towards a younger audience because this podcast talk about crazy expensive and fast cars which is a subject that young car enthusiasts are interested in. The target audience is also aimed towards a older audience because more of the older audience may have retired already and are into cars and they are interested in listening to people talk about cars that the presenters enjoy driving and then this older audience may consider buying this car. The geodemographic that this podcast episode is aimed towards is people who live around England in the UK, this is because they talk about topics in the podcast which are about location in the UK about where they drive and things like that. The sycodemographics of the audience who listen to this podcast are people who the interest in fast cars and motorsport. The gender is stereotypically aimed towards a male audience as stereotypically more men over women are interested in driving cars. The sociodemographic of the audience who listen to the podcast is aimed at people in the category ABC1





Non-Profit - ERE wash sound (Derbyshire) 



The target audience of ERE wash sound is aimed towards both female and male genders and aimed towards people aged 35-64 years old. The music that is played on this radio station is more played back and not so energetic as this age category is more likely to want to listen to more chilled out pop music. The target audience is also aimed towards people which strong interest in local news, sports and events. You are able to listen to this radio station through sound cloud and smart speakers. The Business Show with Sally Peacock which starts at 7:00pm until 8:pm is a radio show all about business. This show has the target audience for people who want to listen and learn more about business. This shows target audience may be aimed towards business men and women who want to listen to something that they can relate to.
